I've been doing this since 1978, and the work I care most about has never changed: sitting down with people and helping them make good decisions about what they've built. For most of my clients that means the business and the family together, and the estate planning that ties the two. Many of them I've worked with for two generations. A few are on their third.
I started at Arthur Young back when there were still eight big firms, and founded Foster, Bounce & Gemberling here in 1983. When American Express acquired the practice in 1994 I took on a leadership role in the national firm, and I learned something from it: the bigger it got, the further I was from the clients. So I came back. In 2003 we bought the firm back from American Express, and I've been in the room with clients ever since.

I work mostly with business owners. Most of that work is in the mechanics: making sure your entity structure and the way money moves between the business and you are set up as tax-efficiently as they can be. That isn't a one-time exercise. We look at it fresh every year when we prepare your return, and when the law changes, we go looking for opportunities. The strategies you'll see online are built to get views. Ours are built to hold up.
I grew up in Westlake Village, started my career at Deloitte, and have been at FGA since 2012. Running a business myself, I think about the same things you do: taking care of good people, keeping clients happy, and making it all work.
